The 2006 Sit-A-Thon was held in the Carousel Performing Arts Center at Goddard Park on Saturday, September 9th from 8 am until 6 pm.  The Sit-A-Thon is an annual charity event that helps to raise funds for Camp Hope, the Obscure Company, and other local charities.  Volunteers gathered and engaged in a grueling test of endurance, sitting for ten hours to benefit these worthwhile causes.

This year's Sit-A-Thon was a smashing success!  28 sitters and 3 helpers convened in the Goddard Park Carousel building with fat pledge sheets in their hot little hands.  These thoughtful and hardworking sitters raised a new Sit-A-Thon record for pledges to benefit Camp Hope, a one week residential camp for children with cancer and their siblings.  Cindy the Camp Hope coordinator came to the event to speak about the camp and express her appreciation for all our efforts.  This year's Sit-A-Thon was more successful than all previous, and we're all happy to hand it to Camp Hope.

Folks participating in the Sit-A-Thon were given a door prize of an Obscure Company Sit-A-Thon T-Shirt, stress ball, sticker and cup donated by Needle Designs in North Kingstown.  During the course of the day we had entertainment which included intimate performances by local magician Patrick Bosworth, and a short set by Chris Rosenquest.  In between entertainers, we had lunch made possible by the Harvest Soup and Deli in Pawtucket and snacks and drinks donated by Sams Club and CVS.

There were many changes to this year's event, including the Obscure Company's newly awarded charitable status from the IRS, which means that all donations are tax-deductible this year.

We would like to say thank you again to all who came to this year's Obscure Company Sit-A-Thon for your support and fundraising efforts and look to see more pledges roll in during the coming months.

All donors should keep on the look out for the pledge drive envelopes as they will be sent out soon, along with a tax exemption letter to follow, around the first week of December.  To all sitters and donors, thanks again.
