Frequently Asked Questions

The Obscure Company Sit-A-Thon is the company's signature event, bringing in people from all over the country to support the chosen charity.  Over the course of the event's history, The Obscure Company has raised  $18,000 for Camp Hope in their fight against the horrible disease.  The concept of the event is simple.  Sitters gather sponsorships from friends, family and well wishers to remain seated for up to 10 hours in our designated sitting areas.   There the sitters must occupy themselves through games, books, conversation and in general the type of things people do when they have the opportunity to sit around all day.  After the event, the sponsorships are collected from our generous donors (over 400 people have donated to the event over the years) and the vast majority of the proceeds are donated to the year's charity.  All donations are tax deductible, as The Obscure Company is a registered 501(c)3 charity.

2008's Sit-A-Thon was the most successful Sit-A-Thon to date and raised $7500 to support Camp Hope's programs.  Help us to make our largest donation to date in 2009 by sitting or donating.

Camp Hope - The purpose of Camp Hope is to diminish the suffering of children with cancer by affording them the opportunity to enjoy a traditional camp experience, increase their physical self-esteem, foster positive peer interaction and develop social skills. All campers' medical needs can be met while at camp by a full-time nurse practitioner and registered nurses, with a pediatric oncologist on call at all times.

Camp Hope is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and funded through contributions. Camp Hope depends entirely on the donations of individuals, organizations and corporations for funding to support camp activities, which enables the American Cancer Society to offer camp at no charge to families.

For more information or an application to be a camper or volunteer counselor, e-mail Theresa Masnik at Theresa.Masnik@cancer.org or call 243-2628.
