Worried about what you may be getting yourself into at this year's Obscure Company Sit-A-Thon?  Well you shouldn't be.  We're all pretty tame, and generally pretty easy to get along with.  We've been doing this for 5 years running now and we have a crew of die hard sitters in addition to new sitters each year.  We don't even need to bribe them!  (Although this years' incentive program, and entertainment is starting to look irresistible)  Still afraid we're going to turn out to be zombies, or some sort of weird sitting cult?  Take a look at the pictures from last years' event.  It was a BLAST.  This year will be no exception.

This Year's Sit-A-Thon sponsored in part by        8/18/06

Needle Designs in North Kingstown, RI supplies Rhode Islanders with quality screen printed and embroidered apparel, as well as all the promotional give-a-ways, and incentives you'll see at the Obscure Company Sit-A-Thon this year.

Secretary's everywhere have ideas!                      4/26/06

Everyone used to working in an office, or corporate setting knows the worth of a secretary.  In the Obscure Company, I'm not only the one who grabs coffee and pastries, I also do filing, mailings and even take the minutes from our frequent and exciting meetings.  Imagine a world with no coffee, and papers every where!  The entire corporate world would be looking down a sharpened fan blade at another attack of the Crimson Permanent Assurance.  With all those threats quelled, and cheese danish in hand, this is the one day that secretaries everywhere shine...sort of.  Unfortunately, it's sometimes overlooked, and mostly a chore that all bosses must keep in mind come spring.  Most secretaries play the role of a telephone operator, and director of data entry and are generally overlooked when they have an original thought or suggestion.  (Not the case in the Obscure Company thankfully)  Apparently, some inspired secretary (no overwhelming evidence has been found to substantiate a secretary creating WIP day, but we'll run with it) had had enough and upped the ante 5 years ago for all us patrons of the paperwork.  April 26th now plays a double duty as a secondary holiday.  Today we not only celebrate Secretaries Day, but World Intellectual Property day as well.  A day where people all over the world sit back and put on their thinking caps, turbans, fez, 10 gallon hats or what have you, to come up with, share and appreciate new ideas.  Listening to ideas no matter how silly or unreachable is one of the Obscure Company's founding attributes, so we encourage all of you to think up something great, and share it with your secretary, or with us...

Which brings this rant to a close, and opens the first Web Contest of 2006!

Send us your ideas for a new Obscure Company event!  Submissions should include a well thought out plan of attack including a listing of all necessary resources for the event, as well as probable event site suggestions.  The most creative ideas coupled with pie charts, graphs and any generally awe inspiring napkin drawings will be rewarded with an embroidered Obscure Company polo shirt emblazoned with our new official logo.  Submissions will be accepted until May 1st, so think fast folks!

Curling is actually straight up excellent                   4/1/06

Both Obscure Company members and executives showed up in Lowell, Mass for the US Men's World Curling Championship to be wowed by the most underrated sport around.  Turns out that curling is a game of strategy and depth coordination that people of any age and level of athleticism can master with practice.  Regular Joe's were displaying their years of practice along side their Olympic medals in 4 different games all going on at once!  It was a 4 lane circus of scrubbing and sliding that looked like a blast to play.  There was talk of starting an Obscure Company curling team, but we were a bit discouraged when both the Australian and Swedish curling teams explained that each competitive team member had been playing nearly their entire lives.  We'll be there someday.  We've done stranger things.

A big ol' happy birthday to Obscure Company Members Andrew Liberato and Douglas Stevenson             3/25/06

Another year older, and another year wiser.  The Obscure Company will be celebrating Doug and Andrew's birthday at the infamous and delicious Lil' Miss Cranston Diner near our headquarters.  I hear that our official waitress April is even baking a cake!  Stop by, and wish the ol' boys luck.

We are nearly there...this way!                              3/23/06

We are presently a hop skip and a jump away from completion of the Obscure Company website.  Aren't you excited?  No more soiling yourself at the surprise of a completely new layout!  I swear it'll be soon because I don't know if I can take anymore of this suspense.  It's like a sit-a-thon, only with a slightly less exuberant finish.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it though.  Look around, and get comfortable.

Under Construction                                               2/13/06

Hold tight you soldiers of Obscurity, we are working hard on a 'final' redesign of the website.  All too soon, you will stop being bombarded by new logos, colors, layouts and inconsistent updating.  This I promise.  In the meantime, check out the new links, and the fabled Suggestion Box.

Blinded...by Science!                                              2/6/06

One might scoff at our pride in Saturday's Science fair at Smithfield High School, calling it an 'underwhelming' event to start the 2006 season with...but they'd be wrong.  This event is a sign of the times folks.  We proved that we care.  You know how?  This event required getting ourselves out of bed on a Saturday morning and being in SMITHFIELD RHODE ISLAND (anyone know how far that is in RI terms?) at 8:30 in the morning.  After a few (hundred) cups of coffee, and a few  donuts (only one, we're trying to watch our girlish figure) we saddled up, and buckled down to judge some really great projects.  Some of the highlights were:  "Something's Fishy About This Equasion", "Forest Fires: Villainous Tree Murderers" and "My Little Volcano".

See the updated Events listing for some more details.

It's Alive!  It's Alive!                                                 2/2/06

The first inaugural Obscure Company board meeting proved to be a true melding of genius and brawn resulting in a successful measure of deadly accuracy in Charitable leg work.  It  all began in the basement floor conference room at Obscure Company headquarters on January the 28th 20 ought 6, and ended in the early morning hours of the 29th after many long hours of deliberation and feasting on frosted donettes.

Of the spoils from this rendezvous of the brain trust, were an edited mission statement, talks of becoming our own charity and most importantly, a tentative list of rather ambitious Obscure Company events for this year.  That's right, AMBITIOUS.  Get ready folks, we're talking pony rides, egg in a spoon races, shiatsu massage, a summit on feng shui, purple monkey gargle blasting, and all the milk and cookies you hellions can stomach.  The Ol' C spared no expense this year my friend.  People of the world that are in need are going to be PAAAAIIIDDDD.

All jokes aside, this year will be a great one, so we'll need all the support we can get from you, and EVERYONE YOU KNOW.  So spread the word.  This one's gonna be huge.

OK, I've almost got it folks...                                 1/19/06

Revel in the restructuring!  Wallow in the update!  Enjoy the wood paneling and wainscoting, because here...you...are!  The Obscure Company to come will knock the argyle out of even the most circulatory encouraging darners.  What?  Anyhow, enjoy the contentless structure, and improve the rest?  Yeah!  WOOD PANNELING!!!  Ok, I promise I'll have things up and running soon.  Almost there...Do check out the new picture page...The layout is B-Gorgeous.

Keep a look out for the end of my awful sarcastic humor, and the....

Next Obscure Company gathering at the WORLD CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS!  In Lowell, Massachusetts the weekend of April 1st gather the most spry, and strategic athletes this side of the Canadian border.

Welcome folks, have a seat.                                 1/10/06

Good morning everyone!  I'm sure you're gawking at the screen in disbelief, maybe drooling, its ok, all normal things.  Stay calm, keep breathing.

This is the first experiment with the future of the Obscure Company website and has taught me a great deal about how little I know of the inner workings of Microsoft FrontPage.  Very soon, we will have pages and pages of organized content for you, but in the mean time, you will have to search the site for bad links, easter eggs, or just check this stuff out...a little something for everyone.

See you soon.
